Segments · Marketplaces & resale

Every unit is a one-off.

Primary retail sells the same thing many times. Resale sells one thing once, and everything downstream of that fact is different.

What the operation looks like

The shape of the day, not the pitch.

Resale operations price, describe and authenticate items that exist in a single condition state, at a moment when comparable data is thin and decaying. Trust is the product: authentication, condition truth, verifiable provenance. Regulation has arrived on top - AGEC, ESPR, Right-to-Repair - and the Digital Product Passport is the connective tissue that could let a brand reclaim the second life of its products, if the data holds.

Where to start

4 of the twelve, in the order they pay here.

Not all twelve, and not the same order as any other segment. The argument for each position is below it.

  1. 01
    AI Governance & Compliance

    Frontier · Deploy

First, and it is not a compliance answer. The passport is the data spine that makes authentication and provenance work at all - the regulation is the reason it exists, but the operation is why it matters.

  2. 02

Second. One-off inventory is exactly what agent-mediated discovery is worst at reading today, which makes structured listing data disproportionately valuable here.

  3. 03
    Fashion Context Layer

    Foundation · Build

Third. Condition grading depends on knowing what the item was when new - construction, materials, hardware - which is a context problem before it is a vision problem.

  4. 04
    Agent Orchestration

    Foundation · Build

Fourth. Grading and pricing at listing volume is a throughput and cost problem, and the routing decision is where the margin sits.

The constraint

The data has to survive the item changing hands

A passport that only the originating brand can write to is worthless the second time an item is sold. Anything built here has to assume custody changes and the record does not - which rules out most of the obvious architectures.

How engagements here run

Build.

Twelve weeks and up, in your infrastructure, IP transferred

Because the data spine has to sit in your own infrastructure. A passport rented from a vendor is a passport that expires with the contract.
